What is gender equity?

Gender equity is about removing barriers that prevent women, girls and gender diverse people from reaching their full potential.

When everyone has the opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential, British Columbia’s communities, workplaces and economy are stronger, better places for everyone.

Gender Equity Office

The Gender Equity Office, part of the Ministry of Finance, leads government-wide efforts to advance gender equity in British Columbia. The office supports these key priorities:

Pay transparency: Implementing the Pay Transparency Act to help close the gender pay gap and strengthen BC’s labour market.

Preventing gender-based violence: Leading Safe and Supported: BC’s Gender-Based Violence Action Plan, to reduce the long-term social and economic costs of violence.

Better public investments: Providing training and tools on gender-based analysis across the BC Public Service to help ensure policies, programs, and budgets deliver better outcomes for British Columbians.

National Collaboration: Representing BC at the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Forum of Ministers Responsible for the Status of Women and administering the $61.9 million Canada-BC agreement to end gender-based violence.
