Most Recent Update

July 12, 2018 - 8:45 am

Last night, Prince Rupert Container Terminal reported five employees were exposed to an unknown substance with a garlic odour. The employees were treated by paramedics. Their current condition is unknown. The terminal was shut down and personnel were evacuated. The rail corridor into the terminal was also shut down.

The Prince Rupert Port Authority called in a hazardous materials team from Vancouver last night (July 11, 2018) to investigate the situation. The responsible person, DP World, confirmed the hazardous materials team arrived on site last night at 6:00 pm to begin a site assessment. As of 10:00 pm last night, no further impacts were noted. 

The incident site was re-assessed this morning. The hazardous materials team did not receive any readings on their sensors and no other concerns were noted. Based upon the site assessment, the terminal was reopened to full operations at 8:00 am this morning. 

No further incident updates are expected.
