April 15

On April 15, 2026, the Ministry of Environment and Parks (ENV) received a report of a motor vehicle incident resulting in a fire on Highway 37 North, approximately 20 km north of the Meziadin Junction near Stewart.

The vehicle involved in the incident was towing a trailer. The trailer was carrying oxygen cylinders and other potentially dangerous goods.

The RCMP and the Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MOTT) closed the highway during the emergency response. The highway has been reopened.

The vehicle has been completely consumed by the fire. Arrangements are being made for the recovery and salvage of the vehicle, trailer, and associated materials.

No fatalities have been reported at this time.

ENV Response Officers will continue to monitor salvage and cleanup operations.

As the emergency phase of this incident has concluded, no further updates will be provided.
