Early morning on July 27, 2024, a one-ton flat deck truck and asphalt sealcoating trailer went into Okanagan Lake near Peachland, B.C. Vehicle fluids and asphalt material were observed in Okanagan Lake around the truck and trailer.
The trailer had a storage capacity of 900 L, but was not full when the incident occurred. The total spilled volume is unknown.
The Peachland Fire Department and a tow company responded to the site. A boom was placed around the impacted area and the truck and trailer were removed. An ENV Environmental Emergency Response Officer (EERO) was dispatched to site.
A domestic water intake was identified nearby and notification to the owner has been initiated. Interior Health was notified.
A response contractor arrived onsite July 28, 2024, for cleanup activities and water quality sampling.
The boom will remain in place until the completion of cleanup and mitigation activities.
