Most recent updates

The Environmental Emergency Branch (EEB), Ministry of Environment and Parks (ENV) has received updated information regarding a semi-truck incident on Highway 1 westbound under the Lafarge Overpass in Kamloops.

A semi-truck transporting roofing materials overturned early in the morning, releasing product onto the roadway.  Approximately 540 kg of roofing adhesive was released onto the roadway from 5-gallon containers. A dark orange, resinous substance is suspected to be released hydraulic or brake fluid from the semi-truck.

An Environmental Emergency Response Officer (EERO) is responding to the incident, and no waterways are impacted. The Responsible Party (RP) has retained a local contractor to conduct spill response and cleanup. The semi-truck has been up-righted and no diesel release from the tractor-trailer has been reported.

No further updates are anticipated, and there is no ongoing risk to public health or the environment.
