Environmental Emergency Response Officers and response contractors retained by the Responsible Person arrived on site Friday, March 21.
The transport truck and both tank trailers were damaged. Approximately 19,000 liters of diesel spilled from the rear tank trailer. No diesel spill was identified from lead tank trailer or the truck's fuel tanks.
The damaged truck and trailers were removed from the site.
A qualified environmental professional retained by the Responsible Person were onsite Saturday, March 22, to assess environmental impacts and take soil samples. They are developing a remediation plan.
No impacts to waterways have been identified.
The situation has stabilized. ENV continues to monitor response and cleanup activities. No further updates are anticipated.
On March 21, 2024, the Environmental Emergency Branch (EEB) was notified of a spill from a bulk fuel transport truck. The motor vehicle incident occurred on Highway 5 approximately 10 km south of Valemount, B.C.
The amount of diesel spilled is being determined.
The Responsible Person has retained and deployed a response contractor to site. They are expected to arrive onsite this evening.
Two Environmental Emergency Response Officers are on route to the site.
