On the morning of May 14th, 2025, the Ministry of Environment and Parks (ENV) received a report the Mission Flats Landfill was on fire, near the community of Kamloops.

The fire is now contained. Kamloops Fire Rescue will continue suppression efforts throughout the day. An advisory and shelter-in-place notice issued to residents earlier today has been lifted. Residents can resume normal activities.

An ENV Response Officer has been deployed to the site to support.

The City of Kamloops has implemented mitigation measures to prevent fire suppression runoff from entering the North Thompson River. However, some runoff was observed to have reached the river.
