July 14

On July 13th, 2025, the Ministry of Environment and Parks (ENV) was notified of a fire on a derelict vessel, MV San Mateo, near the City of Mission, B.C.

The Mission Fire Department responded and suppressed the fire soon after 9:00 pm. The Mission Fire Department monitored the site overnight.

ENV was updated this morning, July 14th, that the fire re-ignited around 6:00 am. The Mission Fire Department continued on-scene response and reported the fire remained contained to the vessel.

Canadian Coast Guard staff and an ENV Response Officer were on site today and collaboratively assessed for polluting substances in the water from the vessel. No polluting substances were observed.

The fire was confirmed to have been extinguished this afternoon.

The Canadian Coast Guard and ENV Response Officer have demobilized from site.

As the situation is under control, no further updates are expected.
