April 10

On April 10, 2026, the Ministry of Environment and Parks received a report of an incident of mixed chemicals causing chlorine gas at Crystal Pool in Victoria, B.C.

City staff and the fire department evacuated the pool and surrounding buildings.

8 people were taken to the hospital as a result of exposure.

Local residents were advised to stay in doors and shelter in place. That advisory was lifted later that day.

The Capital Regional District deployed the Hazmat Response Team to management.

The City closed the pool until Tuesday April 14, 2026, to allow the gas to dissipate.
