Radius Recycling, Ministry of Environment and Parks (ENV), Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR), Metro Vancouver, the City of Surrey, Surrey Fire Department, Vancouver Fire Rescue, and Canadian Coast Guard (CCG).

April 3

Overnight on April 3, a fire started on a scrap metal barge. The barge is on the Fraser River, east of the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge in Surrey.

The fire has now been extinguished. There is no visible smoke plume and no visible sheening on the river.

The City of Surrey activated their Emergency Operations Center. Surrey Fire Department and Vancouver Fire Rescue were on scene conducting firefighting operations. Surrey Fire Department, Vancouver Fire Rescue, and Metro Vancouver managed the incident in Unified Command.

The Canadian Coast Guard was engaged and monitored the incident.

A Response Officer from the Ministry of Environment and Parks attended the site.
