Major Investments Office

Last updated on May 20, 2026

The B.C. Major Investments Office (MIO) serves as the primary point of contact for large private sector projects (>$100M). Our office's main priority supports projects with significant economic benefits to British Columbia.

To attract high value investments, the MIO works with investors whose projects align with B.C.'s priorities. Our office also supports economic objectives in the Look West Jobs and Prosperity Strategy.

The MIO coordinates government resources to help investors navigate B.C.’s policy and regulatory environment. Our office will clarify processes and connect proponents with relevant ministries/agencies. We also offer advice to support decisions making as projects advance from concept to a final investment decision.

Key areas of support/advice include:

  • Coordination with provincial, federal, municipal, and Indigenous governments
  • Facilitation of multi-stakeholder negotiations and agreements
  • Navigation of regulatory and permitting processes
  • Assessment of project readiness and infrastructure needs (site selection, utilities, transportation, etc.)
  • Guidance on potential access to financial support through existing programs

MIO also administers the B.C. Strategic Investment Fund.

The Major Investments Office helps strengthen British Columbia in attracting responsible investment. Our office also supports sustainable economic growth and community benefits.
