Nation Building Grant

Description

The Nation Building Grant provides multi-year funding to support the self-determined priorities of B.C. First Nations and Tribal Councils. This funding helps strengthen governance structures, build institutional capacity, and enhance community resilience, advancing self-determination and sovereignty.

Funding available:

  • 1-year grant up to $60,000
  • 2-year grant up to $120,000

Only one project per Nation or Tribal Council per year is eligible, including projects from organizations under their authority.

Eligible projects may include initiatives that:

  • Strengthen governance and leadership
  • Support community planning and engagement
  • Enhance institutional development
  • Promote cultural revitalization and knowledge transfer

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must be one of the following:

  • A B.C. First Nation
  • A B.C. Tribal Council
  • A development corporation or organization that is wholly owned and operated by a B.C. First Nation

Status

Open until December 5, 2025, or until funds are fully allocated.

Administration

The Nation Building Grant is funded and administered by the New Relationship Trust (NRT). NRT is an independent non-profit organization that supports First Nations in British Columbia by investing in capacity development. Its mission is to help build strong, resilient communities through funding in areas such as governance, education, language, youth and elders, and economic development.
