We offer presentations and inquiry sessions that will help guide you through the process to become a teacher in B.C. Each presentation and session focuses on a specific stage of the application process. 

Offerings and registration

 

Applying for a B.C. Teaching Certificate: register for a BCeID, log in to your account, and submit an application form

To teach in the public and independent K-12 school systems in B.C., educators need a teaching certificate. Learn how to create your online account as well as submit your application form. This session is designed for new applicants or existing applicants who want to apply for another type of certificate. 

Format: This 45-minute session includes a presentation with an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

Applying for a B.C. Teaching Certificate: submitting the required supporting documents

To teach in the public and independent K-12 school systems in B.C., educators need a teaching certificate. Learn more about the documents that need to be submitted to support your application for teacher certification. This session is designed for people who have submitted an application form and have received their personalized list of required documents from the Teacher Regulation Branch.

Format: This 45-minute session includes a presentation with an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

Introduction to Pathways to Teach Canada: credential assessment for internationally trained teachers

Learn about the organization that evaluates the credentials of internationally educated K-12 teachers who want to teach in Canada. Find out how the Pathways service impacts an application for certification in B.C. This session is designed for people who completed their teaching training/education program outside of Canada or for K-12 employers in B.C. who are recruiting teachers.

Format: This 45-minute session includes a presentation with an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

Teacher Certification in B.C.: understanding the application process from the employer's perspective

Learn about the process for applying for a B.C. teaching certificate or a letter of permission, the expected timelines from application to eligibility, and the tools available for employers in the Employers’ Area. This session is designed for K-12 school employers.

Format: This 45-minute session includes a presentation with an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.

Make a Future: Careers in B.C. Education Job Board

Learn about the Make a Future job board, the official job board for all teaching opportunities in B.C.’s K-12 sector. The presentation will include an overview of K-12 employers and how teachers can build their Make a Future account and apply for job opportunities. This session is designed for people who have applied for a B.C. teaching certificate, or who are already certified to teach in B.C. and are ready to enter the K-12 education workforce.

Applying for a B.C. Teaching Certificate: for teachers certified to teach in other Canadian provinces and territories

Learn about the process for applying for a B.C. teaching certificate under the Canadian Free Trade Agreement (labour mobility). Learn which documents need to be submitted to support your application and what the expected timelines are from application to eligibility. This session is for teachers who are interested in teaching in B.C. and who are already certified in, or who have applied for certification in, other Canadian provinces and territories.

Applying for a B.C. Teaching Certificate: for graduates from a B.C. teacher education program

Learn about the process for applying for a B.C. teaching certificate as a soon-to-be or recent graduate from an approved B.C. teacher education program.

Applying for a B.C. Teaching Certificate: understanding the standards for certification and the evaluation results

This session explains the key requirements for obtaining teacher certification in B.C. and why some applicants may not qualify for a Certificate of Qualification. Learn what a Teacher Education Program (TEP) is, what a Conditional Certificate means, and what the criteria are that make people eligible for certification. We will also cover common reasons why applications are denied and how to address these drawbacks. This session is designed for individuals exploring certification options or seeking clarity on B.C.'s certification standards.

Inquiry Session: Troubleshooting your document submission 

This inquiry session will support applicants who can’t submit a document that we require as part of the application for a teaching certificate, or who are unable to have an institution, school or government organization provide the required document. We will answer questions about common issues that you are having and provide guidance on how to proceed. To protect your privacy during the session, we cannot discuss individual applications or personal information. This session is restricted to 15 participants and may fill quickly. Format: This 30-minute session provides time for questions and answers related to the topic. This session will not be recorded.

Make a Future: resume writing and interview skills for teachers

This session will support teachers who are preparing to apply to school districts for employment and are updating their resumes and getting ready for interviews. We will review common challenges that can arise when writing an education‑focused resume and provide guidance on how to effectively present your skills, practicum experience, and qualifications. The session will also introduce strategies for responding to behaviour‑based interview questions and outline what districts typically look for during the hiring process.
