About the Date and Time Standard

The IM/IT Date and Time Standard (PDF, 242KB) applies to all date and time information stored and displayed in B.C. government systems and applications.

Why this standard is important

The IM/IT Date and Time Standard improves the consistency and accuracy of date and time information in B.C. government systems and applications. Different storage and display methods between systems can cause errors and misinterpretations.

By adopting the standard, we will:

  • Improve data quality by using the same rules to enter, store, share, and display date and time information
  • Enhance system interoperability to help government deliver better services for the people of B.C.

Who should use this standard

This standard is for teams that work on systems using date and time information. Teams should use the standard for designing, developing, updating and connecting B.C. government systems.
