BC Catalogue service disruptions

From noon on Tuesday, December 10 to noon on Wednesday, December 11, the following is being upgraded:

  • Upgrades to CKAN version 2.9, including  
  • Schema changes for certain resource fields.

Please refer to the Change Log for a detailed list of changes included in this version.

During the scheduled outage, the following services will not be available: 

  • The Catalogue website, including editing or adding new datasets, resources or files 
  • Access to datasets and files in the datastore

What you should do

Prior to the release: 

  • Review the schema changes in the BC Data Catalogue Change Log
  • If you are creating or editing resource metadata via API, then you will need to adjust the changed fields to comply with the new format as stated in the BC Data Catalogue Change Log.
  • If you are programmatically handling resource metadata obtained through the API, then you will need to adjust the changed fields to comply with the new format.  

Test your changes in our test environment and confirm the changes are successful. If you have any questions regarding the testing, please contact us.

After the release

Data custodians and editors will receive an email notification indicating that the release is successfully completed, and the new version of the catalogue is live. 

  • Please wait until you receive the completion email to initiate your switchover and migrate the changes to your production environment. 
  • Run a check to validate your setup and ensure that everything is running as intended after the new version is live.  

Impacts to the BC Data Catalogue API

If you or your clients use the BC Data Catalogue via API to access, view or edit your resources, the schema changes highlighted in the Change Log will affect your current setup after the scheduled outage.  

To avoid issues, ensure you’ve made the necessary changes outlined in the Change Log
