BC Bid uses the United Nations Standard Products and Services Code (UNSPSC) to classify products and services.
The UNSPSC is open, international, and composed of a four-level hierarchical classification code set. It is a widely-used product and service categorization system.
Using a standardized and modern procurement taxonomy like the UNSPSC:
Allows for consistent recording and reporting of procurement information
Helps to meet reporting obligations established through policy and trade agreements
Provides a navigation method for both buyers and suppliers and improves search functions
