Ready, Set, Learn Information for Administrators
Ready, Set, Learn funds support events for families and their 3-5 year-old children that foster positive connections between families and the school system. Events may feature guests, handouts, or information from community agencies and other early childhood service providers. Schools that enrol kindergarten classes in public and independent schools (Group 1 or 2) are eligible to apply to participate in the program.
Across B.C., Ready, Set, Learn provides approximately 24,000 parents/caregivers and 26,000 children with school and/or community-based events each year. This overview provides more information about how to prepare and organize an event:
A parent booklet available in 13 languages, Ready, Set, Learn: Helping Your Preschooler Get Ready For School, offers parents helpful tips and easy and fun learning activities for 3-5 year-olds.
Annually, school districts identify the schools that will hold Ready, Set, Learn events and share that information with the Ministry. As of 2015-16, school districts are responsible for reporting on Ready, Set, Learn events held at participating schools within their districts. Report templates including lists of schools are shared with school districts by February for each school year.
Independent schools apply directly to the ministry for approval to participate in the program and then report on their events directly to the ministry. Information about Ready, Set, Learn applications and reporting is shared with schools on the independent schools e-board and in the weekly Deputy Minister’s Bulletin for independent schools.
