Fraud Management

Last updated on March 4, 2019

The BC Services Card has a high degree of built-in assurance and security, which minimizes the risk of identity fraud. Additionally a fraud management program is also in place to prevent or respond to potential misuse of the card. It includes:

  • Stringent identity proofing by ICBC when photo cards (the highest level of identity assurance) are issued
  • Investigation of potential fraudulent activity at card issuance, passcode issuance, or card usage

The following activities are reviewed:

  • Attempts to gain a valid credential using stolen or counterfeit identification documents
  • Attempts to use a BC Services Card that does not belong to the card carrier

When fraud is suspected, the event is investigated and use of the BC Services Card for electronic transactions may be suspended.
