The Residential Tenancy Branch (RTB) has staff available to support landlords and tenants throughout the tenancy process. Before contacting the Residential Tenancy Branch, we recommend reviewing the RTB website for detailed information about laws, requirements, and best practices for landlords and tenants in B.C. 


Have your questions and information ready to get help quickly

​To make sure you have a productive conversation, before calling the Residential Tenancy Branch:

  • Write down your questions  
  • Have the documents relating to your tenancy issues available
  • If you have an open dispute resolution file, have your 6 or 9 digit file number and your Dispute Access Code ready

​Note: Your Dispute Access Code is provided to you when you submit your application or can be found in the Notice of Dispute Resolution Proceeding served to you by the other party.

Apply for dispute resolution

Dispute resolution is the formal process to resolve conflicts between landlords and tenants. It should be the last step in dealing with a tenancy conflict, if you're unable to resolve the issue yourself.

Submit a complaint about the Residential Tenancy Branch

The Residential Tenancy Branch reviews feedback and complaints about staff conduct and the dispute resolution hearing process. Dispute resolution hearing decisions are final and not part of the RTB complaint process
