Follow these instructions if your organization has asked you to get a criminal record check through the Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP).

New criminal record check

You can apply for a criminal record check online or by paper.

Online (recommended)

To apply online, you need:

If you don't have your BC Services Card app set up, you must apply by paper.

If you don't have an access code, ask your organization.

Apply online

By paper

Your organization will tell you how to apply for your criminal record check by paper. You'll need two pieces of accepted ID.

Share clearance

If you've had a criminal record check before, you might be able to share the clearance instead of getting a new check.

It is up to your organization if they are willing to accept the shared clearance. If they say no, you will need to get a new criminal record check.

You may share a clearance if:

  • You got it through the Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP)
  • It was done in the last 5 years
  • It's still active
  • The same "works with" type you need (children, vulnerable adults or both)

You can't share a clearance if it was through the police or RCMP.

Sharing clearance with your organization

Your organization will tell you how to share your clearance. They'll give you either:

  • A web link and access code
  • A Sharing Consent Package

You need to set up a BC Services Card app to use the web link.

After your criminal record check

Your organization will get your criminal record check results. They'll tell you if you're cleared to work or volunteer, but they can't share the clearance letter with you.

You must tell your organization if you get any new charges or convictions.
