Development of a Pest Management Plan - North Thompson Region

Last updated on April 26, 2024

As per the Integrated Pest Management Act of British Columbia, Section 61(1) this is public notification that BC Timber Sales, Kamloops Business Area (BCTS TKA) of the Thompson Rivers Forest District of the Ministry of Forests is developing an Integrated Pest Management Plan (PMP) under the Integrated Pest Management Act and Regulations. The plan will describe a pest management program using integrated pest management techniques which will be active from 2024-2029, a five-year period.

The purpose of the proposed PMP is to ensure effective and safe vegetation control within an integrated pest management program on crown land for BCTS. Adjacent communities within this region will include but will not be limited to Clearwater, Barriere, Blue River, Vavenby and Kamloops.

The pest management methods proposed for use include a combination of selectively applied techniques or methods that will be used alone or in combination to suppress and control competitive vegetation. Methods include mechanical and manual applications (brush saw, chain saw and weeding), burning, site preparation, herbicide application (backpack-ground foliar spraying, selective or spot treatment, basal bark-selective, and aerial-foliar). The use of pesticides is intended within the area to which the PMP applies.

The active ingredients and examples of the trade names of the herbicides proposed for use under this plan include: glyphosate (Vision Max), triclopyr (Garlon XRT), imazapyr (Arsenal), and non-chemical herbicide Chondrostereum Purpureum (Chontrol Peate Paste).

A draft copy of the proposed PMP and maps of the areas to which the PMP applies is available:
