Tree species selection

The Tree Species Selection project is designed to define the current and future needs for informed tree species selection decision-making in B.C. in the context of climate change.

The Tree Species Selection Working Group includes multi-disciplinary specialists, and practitioners from industry and government. It focuses on:

• Being an integrator group for science-based information related to tree species management in the context of climate change
• Exploring implementation frameworks for landscape-level tree species strategies
• Completing regional content for the Tree Species Selection Tool (comprehensive, current and accessible knowledge base that supports the best available tree species management interpretations)

Ecologically suitable species

• Coniferous or broadleaf tree species that are well-adapted to a site's environmental conditions, including the variability in these conditions that may occur over time

Note that ecological suitability is only one of the tests for evaluating stocking standards under the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA).
