Re: Self-Luminous Exit Signs

With reference to your letter of February 17, 1988, regarding acceptance of self-energized exit signs. Information submitted included approvals from the Atomic Energy Control Board, and various authorities.

The Board considers that these signs are acceptable under the B.C. Building Code, subject to compliance with Atomic Energy Control Board, Radioisotype Licence 5-8758-88 (Rev.4).

We note that this requires comprehensive records, including registration of each installation, clear marking of expiry dates on each sign, and arrangements for recall by the distributor on reaching the expiry date. Prior to recall each sign recipient and the Chief Fire Inspector of the municipality must be notified.
