Re: Fireplace Insert

With reference to your letter of October 31, 1989, regarding the installation of a fireplace insert into an existing masonry fireplace.

The installation should be in accordance with ULC S628, "Standard for Fireplace Inserts", which does mention the actual connection. There is, however, no requirement for the existing flue to be relined. The manufacturer's installation instructions should contain all that is necessary for the required positive connection to the flue.
