Re: Commercial Storage Facility, Sentence 3.1.4.5.(12)

With reference to your letter of June 24, 1988 regarding the classification of storage cubicles. The building in question is unsprinklered, and it is proposed that it be divided into individual lockers, each 5 ft. by 5 ft., open at the top.

While the Code does mention storage lockers in Sentence 3.1.4.5.(12), this has little relevance to the type of proposal forming the subject of this appeal; we are actually dealing with a commercial storage facility.

We find it difficult to equate these lockers to the Code definition of "suites", therefore we are unable to refer you to provisions of the Code which will resolve your problem. As a possible solution you might consider the installation of a suitable fire protection system, specifically designed for this situation, by a fire protection engineer.
