Tenancy dispute resolution hearing recordings

Last updated on May 6, 2024

All dispute resolution hearings are recorded by the Residential Tenancy Branch (RTB). The recordings are used for quality assurance and training purposes. You can request the recording from your hearing.

Request a recording

If a party to a hearing would like to request a recording, they can follow the following steps:

  1. Complete the Request a Hearing Recording form (442KB, PDF) - Form RTB-54
  2. Email the form to the RTB
    • Send the completed and signed form to HSRTO@gov.bc.ca
    • Use the Subject line – Request for a Hearing Recording – RTB File #

RTB reviews and responds to all requests. Recordings will only be provided when the dispute resolution proceeding is complete.

Recordings are not required for review consideration, clarification or correction applications. Do not request a recording for this purpose.

If you receive a hearing recording

If you receive a copy of the recording, you will also receive an order of the RTB director. The order states the recording's intended use is to allow the parties and their authorized representatives to:

  • Better understand what happened at the hearing
  • Make an informed decision if considering bringing a judicial review

The order will prohibit the recording from being:

  • Modified
  • Published
  • Shared

If you fail to comply with an order of the director, you may be subject to an administrative monetary penalty under the legislation.
