Supervisors for Provisionally Licensed Physicians

The Supervisors of Provisionally Licensed Physicians Program provides compensation to supervising physicians who are assigned by a health authority to assess the knowledge, competencies, and clinical skills of provisionally licensed physicians who reside and practice in Rural Practice Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) communities.

Programs objectives:

  • To help alleviate the financial and related burdens experienced by physicians who travel and/or forego their own practice time to provide supervision to provisionally licensed, rural physicians.
  • To assist health authorities in recruiting and retaining physicians, including provisionally licensed physicians, in rural B.C. communities.

In 2008, the B.C. Government and Doctors of BC agreed to a review of rural physician programs in order to assess the effectiveness of the programs and identify opportunities to enhance and streamline the programs. Read the report, which includes 90 recommendations that are being implemented.
