1911 to 1914: The B.C. Industrial School for Girls

The Industrial Home for Girls Act was passed in 1911 and in 1914.

The Industrial School for Girls opened at the 800 Cassiar site in Vancouver.

Girls were committed to the school after they were found guilty of, (according to section 6 of the Act):

  • Incorrigible conduct
  • Running away
  • Other offences
