Re: Handrails, Subsection 9.8.7.

With reference to your letter of August 3, 1988 regarding handrails to stairs within a dwelling unit.

Article 9.8.7.2. has no application in this instance, the stairs serve only one dwelling unit. We would point out that this Article is completely different to Article 9.8.7.9., which does apply within a dwelling unit and which, together with Article 9.8.7.8., controls the grip characteristics of a handrail.

The photographs submitted, while incomplete, show nothing that we would consider to be in contravention of the Building Code.
