Contact the B.C. Dam Safety Program

The B.C. Dam Safety Program works to reduce risks associated with the design, construction, operation, maintenance, removal and/or decommissioning of a dam. Dam Safety Officers are designated under the Water Sustainability Act and work with dam owners to ensure compliance with the Dam Safety Regulation (PDF).

  • Dams nine metres or higher are generally the responsibility of Victoria-based staff
  • Dams less than nine metres are generally a regional responsibility

The B.C. Dam Safety Program does not monitor other structures that are not licensed under the Water Sustainability Act (e.g. tailings dams, sewage retention ponds or dugouts).
