January 20, 2021 - 5:00 pm

A small amount of mixed petroleum material (hydrocarbon), has been discovered in a drainage ditch in the Village of Masset. A light sheen as well as foamy material was observable on top of the shallow water in the ditch. 

Officers from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) in Masset, B.C. Parks, and B.C. Conservation Service are on scene and attempting to identify the source of the spill as well as the responsible party.

An Emergency Environmental Response Officer (EERO) from the B.C. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (ENV) continues to monitor and provide support to the Village of Masset.
