Cranbrook West Recreation Management Strategy

Last updated on July 9, 2019

The Cranbrook West Recreation Management Strategy was initiated in 2003 to provide strategic-level direction for backcountry recreation in the western portion of the Cranbrook Timber Supply Area. The plan was developed in the context of regional land use strategic planning direction, and is compatible with the Southern Rocky Mountain Management Plan which covers the eastern portion of the Cranbrook Timber Supply Area. Industrial access (eg. forestry) was not considered in the planning process. After extensive consultation with recreation sector representatives, environmental groups, industry and the general public, the strategy was completed and approved in 2005.

Recreational access restrictions have changed since implementation of the plan.  Access Management Areas and Snowmobile Restricted Areas take precedence where they differ from the Cranbrook West Recreation Management Strategy.
