Highway 97 six laning project from Hwy 33 to Edwards Rd in Kelowna

Widening Highway 97 in Kelowna to six lanes from Highway 33 to Edwards Road, and other  access and intersection improvements.

Status: Completed November 2018

Highway 97 - John Hindle Drive Extension

Connecting John Hindle Drive from the Glenmore Landfill to UBC Okanagan Campus at Alumni Avenue (1.8 km).

Status: Completed September 2018

Highway 97A – Sicamous Main Street Intersection

Construction of a single lane roundabout at the intersection of Highway 97A and Main Street, illumination improvements and upgraded pedestrian and cycling facilities.

Status: Completed November 2016

Highway 97 – Westside Road Interchange

Replacement of existing traffic intersection at Westside Road and Highway 97 with a grade-separated interchange and an overpass at Nancee Way.

Status: Completed January 2014

Highway 97 – Grizzly Road Intersection

Widening of Highway 97 at Grizzly Road in West Kelowna to accommodate deceleration lanes and other safety improvements.

Status: Completed November 2013

Highway 97 – McIntyre

Construction of 1.5 km north and southbound passing lanes parallel to the existing highway between Okanagan Falls and Oliver.

Status: Completed November 2013

Highway 97 – Winfield to Oyama

Upgrading Highway 97 to four lanes between Winfield and Oyama in the District of Lake Country.

Status: Completed August 2013

Highway 97/Highway 6 Intersection

Addition of dual opposing left turn lanes eastbound and westbound off 25th Ave in Vernon, as well as modified right turn lanes and enhancements to cycling and pedestrian infrastructure.

Status: Opened to the public October 2011

Highway 97 – Osoyoos Lake to Road No. 22 Hike and Bike Trail
Between Osoyoos and Oliver, construction of a 2 km hike and bike trail between 204th Road and Road #22, with a 3 m wide gravel surface parallel to the newly constructed Highway 97.

Status: Opened to public August 2011

Highway 97 – Bailey Road Intersection
Safety upgrades to the Bailey Road and Highway 97 intersection south of Vernon. Upgrades included signage, speed reader board, flashing overhead beacon,  transverse rumble strips and acceleration/deceleration lanes.

Status: Phase 1 completed summer 2010; Phase 2 completed July 2011

Highway 97 – Osoyoos Lake

Construction of a 2 km passing lane in both directions between Osoyoos and Oliver, and conversion of existing highway into a low speed frontage road.

Status: Opened to the public April 2011

Highway 97 – Bentley Road to Okanagan Lake Park

Widening 7 km of Highway 97 north of Summerland from two to four lanes and constructing 3 km of frontage roads to consolidate local access.

Status: Opened to the public August 2010

Highway 97 – HOV Kelowna

Curbside HOV lanes running northbound and southbound along Harvey Avenue from Water Street to Highway 33 in Kelowna.

Status: Completed September 2009

Highway 97A – Hummingbird Creek Bridge

At Swansea Point south of Sicamous, replacement of culvert with an 18-metre concrete box girder bridge, with three lanes running across it and a left hand turning lane into Swansea Point.

Status: Completed May 2015

Highway 97A – Eagle Rock Intersection

For better efficiency and safety, a protected T-intersection and deceleration lane were constructed in the southbound direction at the Eagle Rock Road intersection in the Township of Spallumcheen, 17.5 km north of Vernon.

Status: Completed October 2013

Highway 97A – Enderby Intersection

Intersection upgrades along Highway 97A at Hubert and Mill Ave in Enderby, including widened travel lanes and sidewalks. Improvements also included City of Enderby utility upgrades.

Status: Completed May 2012

Highway 97A – Pleasant Valley Cross-Road to Lansdowne Road

This 4.0 km of Highway 97 in Armstrong was widened to four lanes, including construction of left turn bays and deceleration lanes at five intersections. A T-intersection and acceleration lane was constructed in the northbound direction at the Smith Road traffic signal.

Status: Opened to the public November 2011

Highway 97A – Larkin to Crozier Road

Construction of 4.2 km of four lane highway to 100 km/h design standard between Larkin and Crozier Road, on Highway 97A between Vernon and Armstrong. Project included a diamond interchange with two roundabouts and a 4.4 km frontage road system.

Status: Opened to the public November 2010

Highway 33 - Big White Road

Construction of a 3.0 km southbound passing lane along Highway 33, north of the Big White Road and Hwy 33 intersection to 700 metres south of Rock Creek Summit brake check at the access to the Big White Ski Resort. Improvements included addition of a left turn bay, and an acceleration and deceleration lane.

Status: Completed September 2015

Highway 33 – Muir to Mills Road

2.5 km of asphalt resurfacing and safety improvements along Highway 33 between Muir Road and Mills Road in Kelowna.

Status: Opened to the public November 2013

Highway 33 – Muir to Gallagher Road

Widening 4.2 km of highway to four lanes between Muir Road and Gallagher Road in Kelowna. Other improvements along the highway include intersection upgrades, left turn lanes, signalization, raised centre median, better illumination and a pedestrian underpass.

Status: Opened to the public fall 2011

Highway 33 – Walker Hill
Construction of eastbound climbing lane, intersection improvements, eastbound chain-up area and westbound brake check along Highway 33 in Kelowna.

Status: Opened to the public October 2010

Highway 3A at Yellow Lake
Construction of 2-metre-wide shoulders through a 4 km section of Highway 3A at Yellow Lake north of Keremeos.

Status: Opened to the public October 2011

Highway 6 – Grey Road to Ricardo Road

Realignment of 2.3 km of Highway 6, including shoulder widening, a new at-grade railway crossing and intersection upgrades along Highway 6 just outside Vernon.

Status: Completed November 2015

UBCO Cycling Route

New multi-use pathway and cycling route at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Okanagan in Kelowna.

Status: Completed

Westside Road – Waterfront Farm to Blue Grouse

Widening and alignment corrections and deep reconstruction of the Westside Road road base to improve reliability and prevent future slip and subsidence.

Status: Completed August 2015

Westside Road – Four Mile Creek to Waterfront Farm

The 1.3 km project included widening and alignment corrections, paved shoulders, rock fall protection and concrete roadside barriers in steep sections.

Status: Completed September 2017


Westside Road Improvements: Mile 4 to Water Front

Westside Road is a picturesque, two-lane road running along Okanagan Lake in the BC interior. Its dramatic beauty makes it a popular route for motorists of all types. To keep this road safe and accessible for everyone, we widened and realigned 1.2 km of the road between Four Mile Creek and Waterfront Farm (north of the Highway 97 and Westside Road interchange in West Kelowna).

Westside Road - La Casa to Muir Road

The project involved 1.3 kilometres of widening and alignment of the roadway, along with the installation of guardrails to reduce the potential for vehicles leaving the road and a paved shoulder to create more room for cyclists and pedestrians.

Status: Completed December 2018
