Extend Lynx trapping season

Last updated on January 12, 2026

The public is invited to comment on the proposed trapping regulation described below.

Status: Proposed

Region: Region 7B, Peace

Management unit (MU): 7-19 to 7-22, 7-31 to 7-36, 7-42 to

7-58

Regulation type: Trapping

Species: Lynx

Closing date: February 13, 2026 at 4:30 pm PT

Current regulation:

There is a current lynx trapping season from November 15 to February 15 in Region 4.

Proposed regulation

Extend the lynx trapping season to November 1 to February 15.

Rationale:

The regulation change will align the open season in region 7B with the open season dates in region 6 and 7A.

Region 7B lies firmly in the Lynx's historic territory and the bag limit is restricted to one animal per hunter. The extended season will serve to harmonize season dates with neighbouring regions 6 and 7A, enhance trapping opportunity, and should not significantly impact current harvest rates as the extension is modest. A second proposal to extend the hunting season of Lynx in Region 7B has also been proposed as BCTA agreed that if the hunting season was proposed to extend, the trapping season must as well.
