Recreation site and trail closures

Recreation sites and trails can be closed due to wildfire, flooding, wildlife interactions or COVID-19 restrictions. Public warnings may also be posted.

Recreation Orders restrict or prohibit recreation use on Crown land.

2021 wildfires and motor vehicle prohibitions

Motor Vehicle Closed Areas were established in the Thompson, Okanagan, and Kootenay regions in response to the 2021 wildfire season. Several of the original closures have been either modified or rescinded as a result of wildfire recovery.

The BC Wildfire Service implements fire restrictions and manages wildfire response. Learn more about current wildfires on the B.C. Wildfires Map.

Check for fire bans and restrictions, including campfire bans, before lighting your fire.

Remember to bring a portable stove for cooking when wildfire risk is high or campfires are banned.

Flood information

The River Forecast Centre analyses snow pack, assesses seasonal water supply and flood risk, and predicts flows in British Columbia’s rivers and streams.

Check for flood warnings and advisories.
