Provincial Office of Domestic Violence

As part of the Ministry of Children and Family Development, the Provincial Office of Domestic Violence coordinates and strengthens services for children and families affected by domestic violence.

It's responsible for:

  • Making sure that provincial government policies, programs and services related to domestic violence are effective and are delivered in a comprehensive, unified way across government
  • Leading a coordinated, systemic response to domestic violence through engagement and consultation with community stakeholders, law enforcement agencies and other ministries
  • Monitoring, evaluating and reporting progress on improvements to programs and services

Provincial Plan

The office continues with implementation of a three-year provincial plan that began in 2014, which includes:

  • $1 million investment to support start-up of specialized domestic violence units
  • $2 million investment for programs that support Aboriginal women, men and children affected by domestic violence
  • $1 million investment to provide support and intervention services for abusers – holding them accountable and helping them make changes to their behavior and attitude
  • $1.5 million investment to help with housing and transportation costs for women and children who are victims of domestic violence in rural communities
