Flood Mitigation Funding Programs

This list is a work in progress and will be updated as new information becomes available.‚Äč

In 2015, the Federal government established the NDMP, a five year, $200 million cost shared program to reduce the impacts of flooding on Canadians. Managed by the Disaster Mitigation Team at EMBC, the next intake for applications is August 2018.

Managed by the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM), with $32 million funded by the Province of British Columbia, this suite of funding programs is intended to enhance the resiliency of local governments and their residents in responding to emergencies. The intake for Flood Risk Assessment, Flood Mapping, and Flood Mitigation projects closed in October 2017, however the intake deadline for Structural Flood Mitigation projects is April 13, 2018.

In 2016, the Federal government announced $24.70 million would be available over 5 years to identify and address climate change related impacts on infrastructure in First Nation communities on reserve.  There is no deadline to apply for this program; applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis.

A five-year, $75 million program, the MCIP helps Canadian municipalities prepare for, and adapt to, climate change, and to reduce emissions of greenhouse gasses. Funded by the Government of Canada, this program is available to all municipalities and their partners.

The Federal government’s Budget 2017 proposed to invest $21.9B in green infrastructure. Of this, $2B will be invested into the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund. However, application details have not yet been released.
