What if a payor can't or won't pay?
If someone has a court order or agreement that requires the person to pay family support, then he or she must pay it. It is a legal obligation.
Family support payments are obligations that, just like credit card charges, a car loan, or a mortgage, must be paid. In fact, under B.C. law, support payments will usually take priority over other debts.
It is the Family Maintenance Enforcement Program's responsibility to monitor the support orders and agreements enrolled with the program, and to take enforcement action when necessary.
