Provincial Policing Standards - COVID-19

In an effort to assist police agencies to limit COVID-19 exposure risk associated with face-to-face training that may require travel between communities, certain BCPPS have been suspended effective March 21, 2020. The affected BCPPS address use-of-force re-qualifications that must be conducted in-person and include: 1.1.2 (2)-(4), (6); 1.2.2 (4); 1.4.4 (1)(b); 1.5.1 (2); and 3.2.3 (5).

The suspension applies to re-qualification only; police officers who were not qualified in a force option prior to the suspension, or whose qualifications had expired prior to the suspension of the standards, must continue to complete the initial training required under the BCPPS to be authorized to carry or use the respective force option.

The suspension will remain in effect until travel restrictions are eased, at which time a timeline for re-instating the standards will be determined.
