Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) licenses professionals who are permitted by law to undertake and assume responsibility for engineering and geoscience projects in B.C.

Practice guidelines and advisories

A primary applicable professional practice guideline specific to forest bridge design and construction is the Guidelines for Professional Services in the Forest Sector - Crossings (V3.0). This guideline was co-produced by Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP).  Along with other professional issues related to crossing design and construction, the guideline provides detailed information about the qualifications required by EGBC and ABCFP professionals when they are involved with various types of crossing projects.  Ministry bridge projects must be performed consistent with these guidelines.

Professional Assurance Documentation

“Assurance Statements” are required for Ministry bridges projects and shall be prepared as described in Chapter 4 of the Ministry’s Engineering Manual and in accordance with the EGBC Guide to the Standard for the Authentication of Documents.  These statements confirm, among other things, that construction work for a project substantially complied with the engineering concepts or intent reflected in the engineering design documents.

Quality management guidelines

The bridge general arrangement engineer shall include a note on their drawings to address the requirement for field reviews consistent with the guidelines published by EGBC called Guide to the Standard for Documented Field Reviews During Implementation or Construction (PDF, 369KB).
