Mineral, Placer and Coal Land Reserves for Northern Caribou in the South Peace Area of British Columbia
British Columbia has committed to protect high elevation winter caribou habitat across the South Peace area to support the recovery of Northern Caribou.
The Chief Gold Commissioner has established a number of mineral, placer and coal land reserves to prevent the acquisition of new mineral, placer and coal tenures in these areas. The mineral, placer and coal land reserves are shown on the attached maps and shapefiles.
The range of Northern Caribou in British Columbia span from the Alberta border west to the coastal mountain ranges and north to the Yukon. There are approximately 17,000 Northern Caribou in British Columbia. Additional information can be found on the following websites:
