Expertise

Dejan joined the British Columbia Geological Survey in 2016, following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC). At the GSC he wrestled with processes that govern the chemistry and mode of eruption in volcanic arcs. During his time with the GSC, Dejan participated in two summers of regional mapping in northwestern British Columbia (Stikine terrane) in collaboration with BCGS colleagues.  Dejan’s geology career began in B.C. -   he completed his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees at Simon Fraser University and acquired expertise in the Proterozoic evolution of the North American Cordillera. In 2008, he moved to Montreal (McGill University) and spent four summers in the mosquito-rich, lake-covered, Ungava peninsula of northern Quebec studying Archean magmatism and crustal growth. He has also dabbled in atypical uranium deposits, compositional characterization of native gold, and the tectonic significance of large igneous provinces. Dejan is has a keen interest in planetary mantles and the evolution of the inner solar system.   

At the BCGS, Dejan is responsible for field mapping and mineral deposit studies with particular focus on nickel mineralization. His primary area of interest and expertise are high-temperature, mantle-sourced magmas and their role in crustal evolution and mineralization.
