BC Timber Sales - Skeena Business Area Forest Stewardship Plan #50
Opportunity for Review and Comment
The Skeena Business Area Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP), in the BC Timber Sales (BCTS) Skeena Business Area, shows the location of forest development units (FDU) in the Coast Mountains Natural Resource District.
BC Timber Sales (BCTS), Skeena Business Area, hereby gives notice that its proposed 2023 to 2028 Forest Stewardship Plan (FSP) is available for review and written comment before it is submitted for approval to the delegated decision maker for the Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development. This FSP will replace the currently approved 2016 - 2021 BCTS Coast Mountains Natural Resource District FSP.
The FSP is a landscape-level plan that identifies how the holder(s) of the plan will be consistent with government objectives for managing and protecting forest and range values through the results, strategies and measures proposed in the plan. The FSP also provides a means to solicit and consider the expectations of the public and stakeholders and to consult with First Nations concerning the use of Crown/public land and resources. Once approved, the FSP will guide future forest development including road construction, timber harvesting and silviculture activities.
The Skeena Business Area’s proposed 2023 to 2028 Forest Stewardship Plan applies to BCTS’ and Gitxaala Forest Products Ltd ‘s planning and proposed operations, licences and permits within the Coast Mountains Natural Resource District and includes the Kalum South, Nass and North Coast Forest Development Units (FDUs).
BCTS is following the provincial direction on Old Growth deferral areas. Until direction is received from government following consultation with First Nations, timber sale licenses will be developed to exclude any overlap areas, either by removing them completely from blocks or placing them in reserves.
The draft FSP is available to the public for review and comment from March 23, 2022 to June 23, 2022 via the links below on this webpage and during regular business hours from April 6, 2022 to June 23, 2022 at the following locations:
