About the Solar Hot Water Ready Regulation

Last updated on April 24, 2024

Being "solar hot water ready" helps homeowners

  • Increase energy efficiency
  • Reduce costs of solar installations and energy consumption
  • Reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Cost Effectiveness

During construction of a new home, the cost to build a roof and walls strong enough to support a solar hot water system is about $200 to $500. A solar hot water system can then be installed at a future date for a lot less than it would cost to upgrade a home that isn't "solar hot water ready."

Applies to New Homes Only

The Solar Hot Water Ready Regulation applies to new single family homes, including ones with a secondary suite.
