How to file a claim

You may qualify for a claim payment when you experience a production loss or plant loss greater than the deductible you selected. Perils, coverage conditions and exclusions are outlined in the Policy Wording of the insurance product that you purchased.
 


For example, if you purchased coverage for 80% of your production, and experience an insured peril that affected 50% of your crop, Production Insurance will compensate you for the 30% production loss.
 

When to file a claim:

To start a claim process, submit a Notice of Loss (NOL) as soon as you become aware of an event that has the potential to damage the crop. Filing an NOL as soon as damage is observed ensures timely assessment and faster claim processing, helping you recover sooner.

  • It is important that you don’t put the crop to other use (harvest, grazing, tilling under, removing the damaged crop/plants, etc.) until an adjustor has assessed the damage.

How to file a claim

Submit your Notice of Loss as soon as damage is observed.

Your Notice of Loss can be submitted in person, by mail, email or fax, or by calling your local Production Insurance office.

What happens next

  • Upon receiving your Notice of Loss (NOL) , we must send you an acknowledgement of receipt of the NOL. It is essential that you contact us if you do not receive this acknowledgement.
  • Depending on the nature of loss/damage to your crop, an insurance adjustor will be assigned to inspect the crop to help determine the cause and extent of the damage.
  • Once damages are verified, your claim will be processed.
    • Claim settlements are prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis to ensure your payment is received within 30 days of claim adjudication.
