Medications for Neuropathic Pain

Personalized education in 30-60 minutes in your office at a time that is convenient for you. This Group Learning program has been certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada for up to 2.0 Mainpro+ credits.

Learning Objective

The overall learning objective of this educational session is that participants will be able to apply the evidence about medications commonly recommended for the management of neuropathic pain to confidently initiate, re-evaluate and discontinue medications for their patients with neuropathic pain.

To achieve this, PAD sessions will focus on:

  1. Discussing the evidence for antiepileptic and antidepressant medications for neuropathic pain as identified in Cochrane systematic reviews and regulatory reviews conducted by the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) and Health Canada;
  2. Describing the available evidence for combining medications for neuropathic pain with attention to drug interactions; and
  3. Applying drug information relevant to the prescribing and monitoring of specific medications for neuropathic pain including anticipated effect, time to onset, and dose response.
