Definitions

Key Decision: A “Key Decision” is a decision by the ACDF and/or Medical Services Commission whereby an application is denied due to a determination of insufficient medical need. Such a decision results in the ACDF not accepting or considering a “Like-Application” for a period of 18 months from the original application date.

Like-Application:  A “Like-Application” is an application for the same modality or service(s) within the same geographic catchment area.

ACDF Meetings

March 11, 2020

The Advisory Committee on Diagnostic Facilities (ACDF) met March 11, 2020.

(1) Modality: Radiology

  • Catchment area:  Fraser North Health Service Delivery Area
  • The ACDF determined that there is currently insufficient medical need for additional radiology capacity in this catchment area and recommended denial of the radiology application considered.
  • The Medical Services Commission, at its April 15, 2020 meeting, upheld the ACDF’s denial recommendation.

As such, the ACDF will not accept or consider further applications for radiology in the above-noted catchment area until July 17, 2021 (18 months following receipt of the original application where denial was recommended due to no medical need), unless the Medical Services Commission determines that medical need for this service has changed in this catchment area and such notice is posted to this website.

November 27, 2019

The Advisory Committee on Diagnostic Facilities (ACDF) met November 27, 2019.

(1) Modality: Ultrasound

  • Catchment area:  South Vancouver Island Health Service Delivery Area
  • The ACDF determined that, following approval of the Vancouver Island Health Authority’s application to provide additional ultrasound capacity in this catchment area, there is insufficient need for additional ultrasound services at this time and recommended denial of the application considered.
  • The Medical Services Commission, at its December 11, 2019 meeting, upheld the ACDF’s denial recommendation.

As such, the ACDF will not accept or consider further applications for ultrasound in the above-noted catchment area until February 7, 2021 (18 months following receipt of the original application where denial was recommended due to no medical need), unless the Medical Services Commission determines that medical need for this service has changed in this catchment area and such notice is posted to this website.

(1) Modality: Ultrasound

  • Catchment area:  Northeast Health Service Delivery Area
  • The ACDF determined that there is currently insufficient medical need for additional Ultrasound capacity in this catchment area and recommended denial of the Ultrasound application considered
  • The Medical Services Commission, at their October 30, 2019 meeting, upheld the ACDF’s denial recommendation

As such, the ACDF will not accept or consider further applications for Ultrasound in the above-noted catchment area until November 10, 2020 (18 months following receipt of the original application where denial was recommended due to no medical need), unless the Medical Services Commission determines that medical need for this service has changed in this catchment area and such notice is posted to this website.

  • The ACDF determined that there is currently insufficient medical need for additional Polysomnography capacity in this catchment area and recommended denial of the Polysomnography application considered.
  • The Medical Services Commission, at their January 16, 2019 meeting, upheld the ACDF’s denial recommendation.

As such, the ACDF will not accept or consider further applications for Polysomnography in the above-noted catchment area until April 22, 2020 (18 months following receipt of the original application where denial was recommended due to no medical need), unless the Medical Services Commission determines that medical need for this service has changed in this catchment area and such notice is posted to this website.

  • The Medical Services Commission, at their October 24, 2018 meeting, upheld the ACDF’s denial recommendation.

As such, the ACDF will not accept or consider further applications for Polysomnography in the above-noted catchment area until February 13, 2020 (18 months following receipt of the original application where denial was recommended due to no medical need), unless the Medical Services Commission determines that medical need for this service has changed in this catchment area and such notice is posted to this website.
