Mental Health Support for Children & Youth During COVID-19

Supporting Children & Youth

It is important that people with a pre-existing mental health condition continue with their treatment and be aware of new or worsening symptoms.

COVID-19 has brought an increased level of worry to many people around the world. Young people already impacted by a mental health or a substance use condition may have a stronger reaction to the stress of a crisis.

Focus on Safety

Child and Youth Mental Health are focused on maintaining everyone’s health and safety when accessing mental health services. We are offering CYMH services with safe physical distancing, available in-person and virtually/by phone. Before visiting the intake clinics, please contact your local CYMH office.

Additional Support

  • FamilySmart Parents in Residence (PiRs) - Provides peer support to all B.C. families who are parenting a child (0 to young adult) with mental health and/or substance use challenges. A team of parents whose kids experience mental health challenges can listen, understand, offer resources and options, and connect you to services. Meet by phone, video chat or in-person. Free service. No-waitlist.
  • In the Know – Provides expert speakers on topics important to families and/or those working to support the mental health of children and youth. Connect and learn with other families for an online conversation.

If a community does not have a PiR, families can contact the Provincial PiR at BC Children's Hospital: 604-878-3400 (Lower Mainland) or toll free at 1-855-887-8004.
