Recorded Information Management Manual
The Recorded Information Management (RIM) Manual provides guidance to support the management of government information to ensure its integrity, reliability, accessibility and security for as long as it’s needed.
The RIM Manual has five sections:

- Records Creation & Active Use
- Records Storage
- Records Transfer & Disposition
The RIM Manual also includes the RIM Glossary and the RIM Manual Index (PDF).
1. Records Management Accountabilities
Identifies roles, responsibilities and requirements for managing government information.
2. Records Categories & Retention
Provides guidance for establishing the level of control needed for all types of recorded information, for developing classification schemes and for ensuring records have information schedules.
3. Records Creation & Active Use
Records management guides provide guidance for how to manage government records during their creation and active use.
4. Records Storage
Provides guidance for handling, storing and managing records to ensure they are accessible, secure and reliable according to legislated requirements.
