Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program

The Climate Action Revenue Incentive Program (CARIP) is a conditional grant program that typically provides funding to local governments that have signed the B.C. Climate Action Charter equal to 100 percent of the carbon taxes they pay directly to support local government operations. The program encourages investment in climate action.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the grant, local governments must have signed the B.C. Climate Action Charter and by doing so, committed to take action and develop strategies to achieve the following three goals:

  • Work toward becoming carbon neutral in their local government corporate operations
  • Measure and report on their community GHG emissions profile (reporting requirements waived for 2020 reporting year)
  • Create complete, compact, energy-efficient communities

2020 Reporting Requirements

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the only reporting requirement for the 2020 reporting year will be to complete the 2020 Carbon Tax Calculation Form.

The Carbon Tax Calculation Form (XLSX) identifies the amount of carbon tax the local government paid over the course of 2020. Submit the form, with financial officer certification, to INFRA@gov.bc.ca.

For more information about CARIP grant reporting requirements, please refer to the CARIP 2020 Program Guide (PDF).

Please note that CARIP is wrapping up in the 2021/22 fiscal year. Reporting requirements for the 2020 reporting year are due August 6, 2021.

Annual Summary Reports

Each year's summary report highlights climate actions reported in the CARIP survey.
